Simple Tips And Facts For Shoppers of Contact Lenses

Be careful about buying cheap contact lenses, they may not be the quality you want; discounted quality contact lenses are the most desirable. All correcting contact lenses must have a valid prescription from an ophthalmologist or optometrist. The choice of which lens is right for you should be based only on an examination by your doctor or eye care professional, not over the phone.

If you’ve always wanted to change your eye color, color contact lenses can provide baby blues, gorgeous greens, heavenly hazels — even various patterns and designs. In the U.S. contact lens marketplace, 82 percent wear soft lenses, 16 percent wear rigid gas-permeable and only 2 percent wear hard.

People who have good distance vision but need help for reading can get a monovision reading lens for one eye. Disposable lenses don’t come with instructions for cleaning and disinfecting, while those labeled specifically for planned replacement do. There are differences in the water content and shape of the lens between different brands.

Contacts provide for excellent peripheral vision for sports, driving, safety, and performing. The length of continuous lens wear depends on the lens type and your doctor’s evaluation of your tolerance for overnight wear. Soft contact lenses are made of soft, flexible plastics that allow for oxygen to pass through to the cornea.

Keep in mind contact lenses are often more complex than appears. Rigid lenses don’t absorb chemicals, unlike soft lenses which will soak up residue from your hands like soap or lotion. Soft lenses also come as disposable products, that is, used once and discarded, or as planned-replacement lenses.

Extra-thin soft lenses are on the market for very sensitive people. You can become adjusted to soft lenses within just a few days, compared to several weeks for rigid ones.

If you have an insurance plan, the insurance plan’s seller’s prices may or may not be better than what you can find elsewhere; this should be just one option when you’re shopping for lenses. Check out how long the online supplier has been in business before you buy. Get a feel for how the retailer handles customer service calls; in case you have a problem after your order arrives.

Always buy from a reputable company; you can buy contact lenses without a prescription, but the company is selling you a prescription device as if it were an over-the-counter device violating FTC regulations by selling you contact lenses without having your prescription. Check to see if you have a health insurance plan that includes vision coverage. Focus on value, not just the price; most people looking for the best price are really looking for the best value.

You can buy contact lenses from an eye doctor, on the Internet, from an optical store or a warehouse club. Make sure you have a current, valid prescription when you order contact lenses. Buy your contact lenses from a supplier you’re familiar with and know is reliable or has name familiarity.

Extended-wear rigid lenses can cause unexpected, undesirable, reshaping of the cornea. The most serious safety concern with any contact lens is from overnight use. Heat disinfection is the only method effective against the microorganism Acanthamoeba keratitis, a common culprit for contact lens wearers, and it also kills organisms in and on the lens case.

Under the binding down of a rigid contact lens during sleep, the flow of tears and oxygen to the cornea is reduced; lack of oxygen leaves the eye vulnerable to infection. Don’t wear lenses any longer than they’re prescribed for, nor when sleeping unless you are otherwise directed. If your eyes become red or irritated, remove the lenses immediately and consult with your doctor.

Ordering contact lenses online has never been simpler with, and sometimes without, a credit card. If you’re planning to buy contact lenses, you should buy the best quality you can get, even at a higher price; you don’t want to skimp on quality when it comes to your eyes. Remember to use only contact lenses that are FDA-approved and only if prescribed by a licensed eyecare professional.

I Know You Can Do It 7 Tips for Teaching Kids to Become Self Reliant

We all know that “helicopter parenting,” the practice of hovering over children and swooping in at any sign of challenge, discomfort, or impending failure, needs to become a thing of the past. Parents who allow their children to make mistakes and learn from them are giving their children a major advantage in life.

It’s developmentally appropriate for children to become more and more independent, self reliant and responsible as they age. It can be challenging for parents to know when to step back and let their children try something on their own. After all, from the time their children were babies, parents have spent years meeting many to all of their child’s needs.

Striking a balance between allowing your children to do tasks for themselves and helping them when they seem to need or want is a talent of very powerful parents. This balance allows their children to thrive because they feel more confident in themselves while still feeling supported and properly mentored.

How can we teach our children to become self reliant and responsible?

(1) Allow your children to make some decisions: Even young children can make sound decisions if you give them a few select choices. Do you want to wear the red shirt or the blue shirt? Would you like a peanut butter sandwich or a cheese sandwich? As children get older, you can allow them to make more important decisions with little to no guidance. They can determine things like which Fall sport they’d like to play, if they need a tutor for math, and which friends they’d like to spend time with each day without needing much, if any, input from parents. While it’s tempting to make these kinds of decisions for your older children, they need to stand on their own two feetafter all, their decisions are often correct!

(2) Encourage your children to try tasks on their own: While it’s often quicker and more skillfully done when we do it for them, children need to engage in tasks on their own if they’re ever going to learn how to do them well. Laundry, shoe-tying, and making the bed are great places to start with young children. Older children can handle more complicated tasks such as cooking, preparing their own lunch, and doing their own homework.

(3) Model responsibility and self reliance: Parents have many responsibilitieslet your child see them and hear about them! Say out loud; “This screw seems a little loose, I’ll go get the screwdriver and tighten it” or “I have to plan our weekly menu for dinner; let’s see…Monday night we’ll have…” When children see you making decisions, taking initiative, and displaying self reliant behaviors, they will engage in similar behavior.

(4) Be your child’s coach rather than his sage: When your child asks you questions about how to do something or what to do in a certain situation, sometimes asking questions is more important than providing answers. “What do you think you should do? How would you feel if you chose X? What would happen if you did Y instead?” These questions can unlock the answers in your own child’s brain so the next time he’s in a similar situation he’ll be able to call on his own experience and judgment to make a decision.

(5) Be a good support system: Sometimes this means cheering them on from the sidelines and other times it means encouraging them to try again. Of course, when children truly need your help, they should know that they can count on you. If you teach them to ask for help when they really need it (when something seems unsafe or too challenging), they should know that you will be there to assist them. Children who know that they can count on their parents when they really need it feel better about taking risks and the possibility of making mistakes.

(6) Get them involved with household responsibilities: Chores are great for teaching children how to be self reliant as well as how to work as a team. After teaching them how to do the chore properly, let them give it a try with some assistance, if needed. You can even work on a checklist together which helps to break down the task into easy, age-appropriate chunks. For example, (a) Take the clothes out of the dryer, (b) Separate the clothes by family member, (c) Match up all the socks…and so on. When we provide children with ways to help out the family, we give them opportunities to build responsibility, self confidence, and self reliance.

(7) Encourage healthy risk-taking: Assure your children that making mistakes is OK. The most important thing is that s/he tries! Most things are not done perfectly the first timeeven when you’re an adult. It doesn’t mean “the end of the world” and there is no reason to be embarrassed. It can be tough to watch our children make mistakes. We may want to rush to their aid to shield them from impending failure or disappointment. However, when parents do this, they rob their children of some very powerful tools; self confidence, stick-to-itiveness, and of course, self reliance.

Your children are relying on you to teach them how to approach the world. Sometimes that means they have to watch you to learn how to approach the task. But other times that means, you must watch them from the sidelines and encourage them to figure it out on their own.

    Parenting Tips Babies In Cars

You can be confident that your infant’s head and neck are well supported in the majority of car seats. The fact that a car seat with a handle, allows you to carry your child from place to place, without having to wake them up and remove them from their seat, is one of the advantages that parents love.

A car seat’s primary purpose, though, is to safely transport your child in a vehicle. Some people may be under the impression that it is difficult to reattach an infant’s car seat in the car each time the seat is removed, but the majority of car seats are designed for easy installation into the vehicle. When the car seat is hooked in, and your baby is belted in the seat, you should examine the seat to be sure that it is correctly secured.

Your baby will be kept quite cozy in their car seat, but you should not leave them in their car seat for extended periods. If you will be taking a long car trip, allow time to pull over and let your baby have a break from the car seat periodically.

Although it is not recommended, a number of parents will step out of the vehicle and allow their child to remain in their car seat, in the car. Prolonged periods of time spent in a reclined position in their car seat, can result in breathing problems for premature infants.

Infants with a gastric reflux condition, will be prone to vomiting when sitting in this position. The point is, that no infant, whether they have a health condition or not, should be allowed to remain in their baby car seat or buggy for more time than is absolutely necessary.

You should avoid using your baby’s car seat for them to sleep in, if there is a crib or pram that could be used instead.

A nap of several hours in the baby car seat will not harm your healthy infant. You should, however, avoid leaving your infant in their car seat for prolonged periods of time.

BBQ Tips How to host the perfect BBQ from Giftlab.co.uk

Here in the UK the sun pops out from behind a cloud for five minutes and everyone’s changing into their shorts and t-shirts (while the Prof just takes all his clothes off so he’s naked under his lab coat – it isn’t a pretty sight). It’s no surprise then, that after a week of constant sunshine, BBQ season has officially begun. As you know, here at giftlab.co.uk we like to make ourselves useful so with the first whiffs of a BBQ (We smelt the first one on Mother’s Day… can anyone beat that? Comment below if you can and you might win a prize!) we were already leafing through cook books, searching the web, and trying out our own styles of cooking so that we could give you our Top Ten Tips on how to host the perfect BBQ and a range of recipes guaranteed to win over your guests. So, without further ado here’s how you can impress all your friends and family with your outdoor cooking skills:

    Cooking:

Marinate the meat overnight and remember to baste it during the last 5-10 minutes of grilling. Season the grill with olive oil and rosemary before you start cooking – it adds a little extra that will leave everyone saying “mmmm… how did you get that flavour?” When using wooden skewers always soak well in water before use – obviously we would advise doing away with the wooden skewers and cooking everything on our BBQ sword. If you want the meat to cook through quickly, bring it to room temperature before you place it on the grill. Not only does it speed up the cooking time but it will also drain the fat better. For a little extra flavour add a powdered spice to your meat (make some without though – remember, not everyone likes spicy food) Light the BBQ well in advance (follow manufacturer’s instructions) before you plan to start cooking – make sure you use enough charcoal, and wait until it is glowing red (with a powdery grey surface) before you start cooking. Cooking in a windy area could prolong the cooking time so make sure you pick a sheltered spot before you light the BBQ (obviously don’t light the BBQ and then decide to move it – this is dangerous.) Always keep a bucket of water by you in case of an emergency. If your BBQ is a spontaneous one and it’s getting dark, make sure you have enough light to see what you’re doing. You don’t want to end up with burnt sausages and you certainly don’t want to start a fire. Don’t be lazy – a clean grill not only cooks better but it won’t leave a disgusting taste on the food.

    Food tips:

For the veggies (and veggies who eat fish!):

Monkfish barbecues really well – it is just meaty enough to hold together well. Why not try Monkfish kebabs on rosemary skewers with ciabatta and pancetta – a giftlab favourite! Salmon and tuna also go really well on the BBQ, but otherwise you would probably need to look at a whole fish (possibly in foil!) like sea bass or trout if you want to cook fish on your BBQ. Try par boiling baby new potatoes then making a bag out of some tin foil add olive oil, seasoning and some fresh rosemary and pop them on the BBQ. You can use the same technique for most veggies but if you are cooking asparagus like that try to make sure to keep them flat so they all cook evenly. With Butternut squash you will need to quarter it and scoop out the seeds then wrap in foil. (Timing these veggies is really quite difficult; as it will depend on the size of the veg and the temperature of the barbecue but normally they’ll take about the same time as they would in an oven.) Buy a corn on the cob and barbecue it with the husks on. Then when it is about done use some oven gloves and pull the husks off – you will probably need a pair of scissors to make sure you have them completely off otherwise they will catch light. Another giftlab favourite.

    For the carnivores:

To make a good pork chop try this recipe: crush some garlic cloves, mix with some grated stem ginger, some ground cumin, ground coriander seeds and chilli powder. Then add just enough sesame oil and dark soy to make it all sticky and gooey. Brush this onto the chops and throw them on the BBQ. Then use the BBQ Sword to hold them over the BBQ with the fat down so it crisps up nicely like instant crackling! To cook the perfect chicken take it off the bone and lie it on a chopping board, cover it with cling film and bash it with a meat mallet or rolling pin until it’s half a cm thick all over. (It’s important it’s the same thickness so it cooks at the same speed throughout). Crush a garlic clove and mix with a teaspoon of paprika, a teaspoon of grainy mustard and a teaspoon of honey. Smother this mix over both sides of the chicken – but not so much that it drips – and chuck it straight on the barbie. With the chicken so thin it will cook quickly and safely. You can make a sauce using the remainder of the paprika/mustard mixture – just heat it gently in a pan with either some plain Greek yoghurt or some double cream. Yummy. Steak is one of the best cuts of meat to barbecue. Just score it on one side with some ground black pepper and brushed with olive oil to stop it sticking. It is quite difficult to go wrong with cooking a steak on the BBQ but a common mistake is to turn it too often. Ideally you should only turn the steak once. For burgers mix the spices (salt, pepper etc) and add them into the patties making sure they’re around ¾ inch thick. Make sure you use ground beef that has at least 20% fat as you need that for the juices. Make an indentation in the centre of the burger to eliminate the “plumping” in the middle then throw them on the BBQ.

    A nice side salad:

Bean salad: Get some cans of mixed beans from the supermarket, rinse them thoroughly and add some canned sweetcorn, chopped spring onions and red peppers along with a jar of salsa. This will go beautifully with the barbecued meats. Pasta Salad : Use coloured shapes mixed with peppers, apple, celery, grapes and a low-fat dressing of yogurt, curry powder and mango chutney. New Potatoes tossed with fresh mint and chives or jacket potatoes with a cottage cheese topping.

Sauces and Dips for the centre of the table:

45ml(3tbsp) Natural yogurt, 15ml(1tbsp) Curry paste, 5ml(1tsp) Lemon juice 432g can Crushed pineapple, 30ml(2tbsp) Chilli sauce, 2 crushed Garlic cloves 150ml red or white Wine, Chopped 30ml(2tbsp) Fresh Herbs, 15ml(1tbsp) Olive oil, Garlic cloves, 2, crushed

    Finally – Safety:

Don’t leave the BBQ unattended. Ensure that the ‘chef’ wears an apron and washes hands before cooking and in between putting food on and taking it off the BBQ. Keep all raw and cooked food separate and keep it “wrapped and refrigerated”. Keep meat refrigerated for as long as possible before cooking – and put the oven on to keep them warm after cooking. Use separate BBQ utensils when handling raw and cooked food. Check sausages and burgers are cooked through, (juices should run clear). Steaks being ‘solid’ meat rather than minced or chopped are quite safe eaten when cooked to rare or medium. Make sure frozen meat is thoroughly thawed (unless otherwise stated) before cooking and do not refreeze once thawed.

      Wedding Photos Tips

Your wedding pictures are the most important pictures you will have taken in your life. When you select a photographer you have to be very cautious. Improvements in camera technology has made it almost impossible to take a bad photograph. Many amateurs, prepared with refined equipment, are capable of taking decent photographs. However, there is much more to Wedding Photography than knowing how to operate a camera. Wedding photography is about seizing moments, capturing emotion and creating memories. The technical skills required to do this are essential, but it doesn’t stop there.

Professional wedding photographers photograph people every day and not only have the necessary photographic skills, but are adept at handling people. How do you find a professional wedding photographer?

Initial, you must ask if photography is their full time profession. Even though you are not required to be a member of a professional organization to become a professional photographer, membership is a good indication that your photographer is very serious about his craft. Membership in the Professional Photographers of Ontario (P.P.O.), for example, requires that you are an active, full-time photographer. Another indication of your photographer’s proficiency is the equipment they use.

All right – your photographer is a member of a professional photographic association and has medium format apparatus. What else do you look for in a wedding photographer? First and foremost, you must view the photographer’s work. Not only should your photographer show you a variety from different weddings, but should also show you a sample of one entire wedding. This way you can see if your photographer can produce quality throughout the event, not just a lucky shot from different weddings. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about how they would handle different situations, such as crying children, obnoxious relatives or fainting bridesmaids. If you are not comfortable with their answer, maybe you should look somewhere else. There are many types of professional photographers covering a vast spectrum of classifications. Though your photographer may be a skilled nature, commercial, baby or pet photographer, it takes a different skill set to photograph weddings.

A great advantage of choosing a photographer that is a member of a professional photographer’s association is that they have the opportunity to become qualified and recognized. As a member of the Professional Photographers of Ontario, the photographer must qualify, within two years of joining, to retain membership. The letters displayed after a photographer’s name, FPPO, APPO and LPPO indicate that the photographer has passed precise levels of the qualification program. Accreditation, a national designation from the Professional Photographers of Canada (P.P.O.C.), proves that the photographer is capable of delivering above average quality in a given category, such as wedding photography. It also means that the photographer books up pretty fast, sometimes up to a year in advance.

American Bulldog Tips You Must Know

The American Bulldog is known for many of its defined traits, and is almost as close to an American symbol as one can get, apart only from the bald eagle. American Bulldog training can be a very fun and entertaining experience, but still needs to be handled properly it the training is to be successful. Too often I see such smart and beautiful American Bulldogs that are just out of control and unhappy. On my professional guarantee, if you acquire the right knowledge and how to apply it when training you’re Bulldog, these problems will not haunt you, and the rewards of a wonderful American Bulldog will follow.

The American Bulldog is an extremely athletic, powerful, and muscular animal. This is a wonderful trait, but not a trait that every owner can handle. This means that this animal requires very frequent exercise and almost constant stimulation. This doesn’t mean that you have to run 12 miles with you’re Bulldog and have him/her pull a sled, but it does mean that if you’re not someone who is frequently active and don’t take you’re American Bulldog along for the ride, you’ll end up with an unhappy pet that can lead to bigger problems down the road. Again, you don’t need extreme conditions to stimulate you’re Bulldog, but specialized knowledge is required to properly train and stimulate them.

American Bulldogs are happy, friendly and devoted pets that get along great with children, even those that are brought into the family later on in a Bulldogs life. However, because of they’re size and love for constant stimulation, they are either best suited for older children (rather then babies or infants) or should be watched when around infants. The fear in this is not because of a possible attack or bite (this doesn’t occur with Bulldogs) but because of their size and weight they could unintentionally role over or sit on an infant. However, believe it or not, you can actually train and American Bulldog to understand the difference between adult and infant with the right training, thus making him/her extra gentle around smaller children.

The American Bulldog does thankfully get along with other household pets, but only it they grow up with them in the same environment. It should be said however that the American Bulldog does not get along very well with smaller pets such as cats, rabbits, gerbils etc. This is simply because of their natural extinct to gather or work. This natural instinct however can surprisingly be subdued and with the right American Bulldog training, can be cured over time.

The American Bulldog is a very loyal animal and because of its natural guarding instincts can be wary, reserved and on occasion aggressive towards strangers it does not know. It is very important that you PROPERLY socialize this breed from an early age so that these problems do not occur. However, the American Bulldog requires that it be socialized in a very proper and specific manner, so make sure you acquire the needed knowledge.

All in all, the bulldog makes for an excellent pet and animal, but just like any other breed of dog requires training knowledge that is specifically tailored towards this breed. American Bulldog training does not have to be a chore, and while it can sometimes be extensive, it can also be a lot of fun for both you and your pet. The rewards of getting it ‘right’ with this breed are extensive, so take the time and put in the effort to gain the needed knowledge to properly train this breed.

      Tips to Have Safer Sex

Having safe sex is preferable for most of the couples out there because it reduces the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancies. There are many methods of safe sex but none of them ensures 100% protection. There are artificial as well as natural methods, but the latter are not easy to practice. In this article we will discuss both these methods available to have safer sex.

Natural methods are very safe and do not require any money. However, you will have to be extra careful and constantly monitor your sexual desires. One of these methods is monitoring the menstrual cycle of the woman. There are some days which are referred to as safe sex days in which having sex does not lead to pregnancy. They are roughly located at a week after the period started till a week before the next period. This cycle is not easy to understand as many women experience irregular cycles. A doctor will be able to describe this phenomenon more clearly. These days are 5 to 10 in number and vary from woman to woman. Only have sex in these days and avoid pregnancy altogether.

Another natural method to avoid pregnancy is breast feeding the baby. If you have recently had a baby and you do not want another one for at least two more years, then breast feeding can very well handle that problem.

Coming to the artificial or contraceptive methods of avoiding pregnancy, the most popular among these methods is the use of a condom. Of course it does not ensure 100% protection every time, but it is the safest method available. There are both male and female condoms available on market, but male condoms dominate the market everywhere around the world. Female condoms are expensive and hard on use.

Oral birth-control pills are also a way to avoid pregnancy but they do not help in preventing the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. Also, sometimes an overdose may disturb a womans hormones and menstrual cycle. After a prolonged use of contraceptive pills a woman may not be able to conceive for the rest of her life. Always consult a doctor before using any contraceptive pills or injections.

There are other contraception methods available as well, for example the coil, diaphragm etc. These methods are not easy to adopt especially if you the two of you are not having monogamous relationship.

Finally, a method that is 100% effective is not to have sex at all. This is called abstinence. Avoid sex if your partner says no to contraceptive methods and if you cant do so rethink your relationship. Many people do not want to have pre-marital physical relationships with their partners. If your values are important to you then discuss them openly with your partner and avoid sex at all times to prevent the dangers associated with it.

Six Tips For Boomer Dating Success

Let’s face it: Dating is daunting. And when you’re a Boomer, it may seem next to impossible. You might be coming out of a long-term marriage, or emerging from a period of time where you were consumed with raising children or caring for elderly parents — or, perhaps you still are responsible for children and/parents. Have your “dating muscles” atrophied? You might feel like you don’t have the slightest idea how to go about flirting, meeting the opposite sex, much less handling issues of sexually transmitted diseases. You might feel like your body is old or unattractive. Disrobing in front of a romantic partner? Definitely not.

Plus, today’s dating world doesn’t remotely resemble the one you knew. How proactive are women supposed to be? Is the third-date rule (for having sex) still in effect? Just how do you handle an HIV discussion? Is online dating reliable, safe, or even effective? And all these questions and difficulties are magnified for female Boomers, who outnumber their male counterparts and also have to compete with younger women.

Yet many Boomers, including women, have gone out there and had the fun and excitement of their teenage years all over again (and with the wisdom of the years, it’s even better!). A 54 year-old artist recently e-mailed me about her new Boomer boyfriend:

Joe adores me. He tells me I am a treasure, a rare beauty. I make him feel alive after so many years of being dead. Joe loves my voice, my thoughts, my work. He bought riding boots and we went riding together. His 95-year-old mom in Miami wants to see my photo.

Many Boomers have created love in their lives — the kind of deeply fulfilling love that offers true friendship along with the chemistry of lovers. Love, of course, is good for us. Research shows that married people are healthier both emotionally and physically. And having sex is good for us, too. Research shows that an active sex life may lead to a longer life, a better immune system, greater heart health, improved mood, even the ability to prevent certain cancers and ward off pain. Intercourse typically burns around 200 calories, which is equivalent to running on the treadmill for 30 minutes! And both activities release endorphins, which elevate mood and lower pain levels.

Once you take the dating plunge, you may be very pleasantly surprised at the possibilities, especially in online dating. This goes for female Boomers too. They often report that once they start, they feel more confident, more clear about what they want and therefore, more attractive! Female Boomers are more empowered and more affluent than ever before. The good news is that often, younger women cannot compete with them for a male Boomer’s attention. The thirty-somethings are too active and demanding in terms of nightlife and other activities, whereas a Boomer man may prefer the seasoned wise companionship of a woman who has been there and done that. In other words, both male and female Boomers are in a position to pick and choose who they want to date.

And there is plenty to pick and choose from. A recent survey showed that 70 percent of single baby Boomers actively date. And 45 percent of men and 38 percent of women between the ages of 40 and 59 have sex once a week. Boomers have taken to online dating in increasing numbers.

Lavalife.com, a dating site known for its younger clientele, reported a 39 percent increase in Boomer use from 2003-2006 and Match.com indicates that the 50+ singles are its fastest-growing segment.

Here’s what Shirley, a 50-year-old divorcee is experiencing:

I just met another amazing guy. This one actually was suggested by Match. I winked. He e-mailed. I e-mailed back. He called me and we had a fabulous conversation. He was so easy to talk to. He seemed honest and sincere. I asked some pretty blunt questions that he happily answered in good detail. And he’s tall! He created a business and sold it in 2006 because he had plenty of money and wanted to do something else. On the other hand, Bill, the writer, is coming out this afternoon. We are going to the beach. Bill says that he has written a poem for me…

So, what are you waiting for? Join the party!

The formula for successful Boomer dating

Tip 1: Bring out your charisma. Find activities that you truly adore and that create happiness and joy in your life. Ideally, pick activities that will transform both the inner and outer you. Take a personal growth course; learn to meditate; or start a spiritual practice.

Tip 2: Take care of you. For the outer (and inner) you, start a regular exercise program. It is definitely the fountain of youth. Give yourself a makeover so that you look great in your own eyes. Get that trendy haircut, go shopping and try out those clothes that your friend wears that give him/her a sexy, attractive or powerful look.

Tip 3: Don’t be shy to advertise. Then put out the word in your network that you are ready to date. Seventy-two percent of relationships come from a person’s network of friends, co-workers, and family. At first, don’t be picky — simply tell folks you are looking for a wonderful person.

Tip 4: Go where the singles go. Go where the opposite sex (or same sex, if you prefer) is. If you like what you see, smile, make eye contact, give a sincere compliment or ask for some help. Sign up for on-going classes/activities that interest you and that have potential dates in them. For example, courses on finance, investing, sports and leadership; snowboarding/skiing; hiking; and cigar tasting usually have a lot of men in them. If you’re a Boomer male, women are attracted to growth, craft, cooking, or spiritual courses. If you’re not sure, ask the enroller about the ratio of men to women. There are many other fun activities, classes, and clubs so Google any class/topic plus “your city” and “classes.”

Tip 5: Definitely do not miss out on online dating. Using the Internet is essential because it gives you a sense of the wide variety of singles that are out there right now. Sixteen million singles are dating online in the U.S. according to the latest independent research. You can partake of this smorgasbord of possibilities right there at your computer. Spend the time and work two sites. In addition to Match.com and Lavalife.com, Boomers can use sites like eHarmony or PerfectMatch.com (63 percent are 35 to 60) and PrimeSingles.net, a 50+ site whose membership grew 39 percent in 2005. Then there are more specialized sites like BigChurch.com for Christians, Jdate.com if you’re Jewish, or OurPersonals.com if you’re looking for same-sex romance.

Tip 6: Put some time into it. Most people spend more time planning a vacation than they do planning their dating lives. And they get great vacations and little-to-no love life! So if you want to date, get out your calendar and set aside 8 to 10 hours per week to spend on going to courses. Then work your online dating program so that you are actually going out on dates.

So remember, face down your fears and insecurities and get in the game. As the poet Kahlil Gibran wrote:
When love beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him…

Buying a Twin Stroller Soon 8 Tips You Must Consider Before Buying a Stroller for Twins

What makes people buy certain things like twin strollers? What motivates them to choose a particular brand over others? Do they do research on strollers before they buy or would they rather rely on the opinions and testimonials of other parents who have purchased twin strollers in the past?

If you’re in the market for twin strollers, you’ll probably look at baby catalogs or ask your friends and colleagues. You might visit a store to get an idea of what they look like. It’s a critical purchase since you want to make sure that your children are getting the best and the safest strollers.

Whether you shop online or offline, these tips should serve as guidelines when purchasing twin strollers:

      1. Type

Tandem or side-by-side? Both models have their advantages and disadvantages. Side-by-side are easier to fold and are lighter. Both babies have equal access to most entry and exit points of any given place. The tandem types (front and back) are cheaper in price and are ideal for tight spaces.

      2. Materials

Pay attention to the materials used by the twin stroller manufacturer. Are they environmentally safe? Sturdy? Do they meet government standards for safety? Are they lightweight? Can they withstand inclement weather conditions? You don’t want to be stuck with rusty twin strollers after they’ve been exposed to rain and snow.

      3. Wheels

You want to be able to take your babies everywhere. This is why it is essential to ensure that the wheels of your twin strollers are all-terrain wheels. These wheels can withstand rugged surfaces, slippery and rough roads. No matter what the street conditions are, your twin strollers should glide smoothly through curbs and sidewalks and muddy fields!

      4. Mobility/Foldability

Modern twin strollers take into account the fact that vehicles and home entrances as well as bedrooms have access areas that vary in size. Make sure your twin strollers can fit into the tiniest spaces such as alleys, corridors, narrow doors and check-in points in public places like airports, supermarkets, and gas stations. One vital factor is to check the foldability of twin strollers. Can they be folded when not in use and do they take up a lot of storage space? Jot down the folding dimensions of the twin strollers just in case.

      5. Warranties

It is important to ask for at least a 12-month guarantee from the store. Defects in design can render twin strollers un-usable and impractical after a few months due to manufacturing defects.

      6. Testimonials/Consumer Reports

If you can’t decide on which type or brand you want and you’re wondering what the experiences of others are with respect to certain models, then read testimonials (most online store publish testimonials on their web site) and consumer reports. It is a fact that recommendations and referrals are often what clinch a deal.

      7. Accessories and Extras

Find out if your twin strollers come with practical accessories: hoods, bags, and extra safety harnesses for the handle bars and seats. Find out if the cloth lining is machine-washable. Examine the parking brake as well. A great bonus is if the seats can be configured in four different seating positions – since babies we know are restless and wiggly creatures!

      8. Inventory and Shipping

If your need for twin strollers is urgent, you don’t want to settle on a type only to find out at checkout that it’s on back order or will arrive only after 8 weeks. Make sure you clarify availability and shipping with the retailer.

As for capacity, twin strollers should be able to carry a maximum weight of 60 pounds. No less!

Shopping for Birth Announcements Some Helpful Tips

You’ve already spent a lot of time, effort and quite a few dollars shopping for everything from clothes to cribs to car seats for your upcoming bundle of joy. You’ve been picking out the perfect paint color for the nursery walls, deciding between a Noah’s Ark theme and baby teddy bears, not to mention the placement of each tiny detail in the brand-new baby room. The same care and attention should most certainly be given to shopping for your baby’s birth announcements.

Birth announcements are truly the best way to share your happiness with the world (while showing off a bit in the process!) To help you sort through the masses of printing companies out there, here are a few tips to help you find the perfect birth announcement printing company for your perfect little one.

Firstly, look for a unique and varied assortment of cards at reasonable prices, with lots of ideas for with or without a photo. This simple piece of cardstock will magically change into once of the biggest announcements of your life, so it needs to be as individualized as your new family. Reasonable prices help to keep your budget in check.

Next comes customer service- the real kind with real people available to answer any questions you may have, and keep you up to speed with the progress of the birth announcements order. But even the best customer service won’t mean a thing if the work is not completed by a trained and talented professional.

What if you like the wording found on one announcement, but like the design and colors of another? The best printing companies will be able to fulfill your request without hesitation. Of course, a variety of appropriate birth announcement terminology and phrases should be readily available.

Ideally, your birth announcements should be completed and sent out to you in under a week.

A definite bonus: if you’re the type who likes to get a jump on things, ask about pre-ordering a particular design and have the envelopes shipped to you ahead of time, enabling you to address them before the baby comes. You can relay any baby information that you know ahead of time (parent’s names, etc.) and simply fill in the blanks when the baby’s born.

Finally, a few additional tips to watch for: if ordering your announcements online, be sure that the company of choice has a physical address and phone number (that always makes me feel a bit safer when ordering something over the Internet). Check for or ask about any “hidden fees”, sometimes cleverly disguised as “handling,” or consist of an excess shipping price.

Amanda Hayden recommends http://www.babyshere.com/ for high quality birth announcements.
